Ceramic artist inspired by the natural world.
Site Under Construction
I make sculptural work that is rooted in the natural world and the place where I live on the east coast of Ireland. Simple curved and undulating forms have detailed patterned surfaces that reference growth patterns found in plants and animals.
My abiding interest in the sea underscores my work and is informed by my participation in sea swimming and scuba diving. The coast where sea and land meet is a place of constant change. Angular surfaces are gradually rendered curved and smooth. Beach rolled stones ‘document’ this interaction and show the physical evidence of the passage of time. This process of attrition informs my studio practice.
Templetown beach is my familiar swimming place. The underwater flora, beach textures and the daily tidal flow of this special place have inspired my new work.
